August 28
Not much to write about today. A drive and a walk through the two terraces at Mammoth Hot Springs, a quick check of Fort Yellowstone buildings, and a stop at the Petrified Tree, then it was time to head to East Glacier Village, a seven-hour drive. It was great to see some youngsters viewing the upper terrace with their parents. The road is too narrow and twisty for RVs and buses, so they have to stay down at the lower terrace.
Five miles north of the Mammoth Hot Springs area (which has a lodge, restaurant, grocery, VC, etc. is Gardiner, MT. This is a full-service town in case a visitor wants to step away from nature for a bit.
Therefore, have been stuck on #320 for a couple of days, but it has been worth it. Tomorrow is Glacier NP, in the Two Medicine area. I have to be through the park entrance by 6 AM since I do not have a reservation (now required between 6 AM and 3 PM). Then a presentation to the students at De La Salle Blackfeet School in Browning. That should be fun and educational for all involved.
