October 15
No park visits today, but wanted to let everyone know I am in Hawaii and will be going to American Samoa tomorrow. It is possible to get a flight into Honolulu prior to the Hawaiian Airlines flight to Pago Pago, but everything would have to go smoothly to insure you boarded Hawaiian Air by 4:35 PM. So, to play it safe, I came a day early and will go to HNL tomorrow for the Pago Pago flight. Hawaiian Air only goes twice a week to Pago Pago; Monday and Thursday. That means you are “stuck” on the island for three or four days (or longer if you want), though I am sure I can find something to do in addition to hiking in the park, such as snorkeling, sunning on the beach, island viewing, etc. The plane lands about 9:30 PM, the passengers disembark, the plane is refueled, and the returning crowd boards. Pretty efficient.
With a 9:30 PM arrival there will be no park visit tomorrow as well. Tuesday will be the trek into the National Park of American Samoa. I will not know about WiFi at my hotel until I arrive. I have read conflicting reports, and that if service is working at any point in time, it can be snail’s pace. Worse case is this coming Friday when I am back in Honolulu will be the next time I access the internet.
